Since moving up to the White Mountains we have found it difficult
to continue the annual walk for violence awareness. However,
our commitment to educate about violence awareness and to promote
peace is as strong as ever. In December of 2010, Jane and Amy
retired from the Board of Directors of the Garden of Peace,
a Massachusetts memorial honoring victims of homicide. www.gardenofpeacememorial.org.
Although no longer on the board, they continue to remain active
and committed to this organization.
Since 2000, we have been actively involved with "Chris'
Crusade", a program promoting peace in middle schools.
Students are encouraged to write essays, poetry etc. as a means
of finding peaceful solutions to many of today's conflicts.
Each year we offer the Christopher Maki Scholarship Award. This
award is available to graduating seniors at Lunenburg High School
and St Bernard Central Catholic High School. Interested seniors
are encouraged to contact their guidance counselors for applications.
